Dhillon School of Business Rep - Mitchell Nixon
Hello and Oki! Students at the University of Lethbridge and Dhillon School of Business! My name is Mitchell Nixon, and I will be a DSB Rep for the ULSU for the upcoming year! I am super excited to get started in this position and advocate on behalf of the entire DSB to the ULSU!
I am going into my 5th year at the university for the 2021/2022 academic year. I started getting involved on campus in my third year (Highly recommend getting involved?). Since my third year, I’ve been fortunate enough to take part in some amazing groups and develop great initiatives at the University of Lethbridge. Below are some of the experiences I’ve had the pleasure of being a part of courtesy of my university experience
- IME Class of 2020/2021. Streets Alive Mosaic fundraiser & Streets Alive IMC, most funds raised by a project in the 20+ years of the program.
- Dhillon Business Students’ Association VP Finance 2021/2022.
- Canadian Association of Business Students Roundtable Discussion.
- CPA Future Professionals Conference.
I chose to highlight these experiences because they have shaped the reason why I ran for the DSB Rep for 2021.
Personally, I’m an avid golfer and get out whenever I possibly can. I also play piano (Currently working on Ballade no.1 in G minor), enjoy working on/driving my car or working on various documents.
My Goals in the position
There are several reasons that I picked the Dhillon School of Business as my standout choice to pursue my University Degree in Business. The DSB is becoming known as one of the best schools to foster connections between the student and the industry they wish to be in. The reason being, the numerous unique experiential learning opportunities designed to promote critical thinking, problem solving and avenues to apply the theoretical classroom learning.
After my second year at the DSB, I said “This school is great, and it truly is fostering next generational education.” So, I want to help in any way possible to further that.
My goal in this position is simple: To serve diligently, the Dhillon Business student population, by continuing, building upon, and executing the outstanding aspects that make the Dhillon School of Business the Best Business School “The Dhillon Difference”.
“The whole is greater than the sum of its parts”. For changes to happen, people need to work together, for the DSB to be its best, we need to work together. I prefer to use the term “synergy” to describe this. It’s a great word and the meaning is even greater.
Something I have really tried to focus on is bringing a lighthearted but focused approach to any team I have been in. In this position, I consider the whole of the DSB to be the team and will make myself available to any Dhillon Students that wish to connect with me, have issues brought up, or new ideas implemented.
Being a former IME Student, actively attending Professional development opportunities and an active executive member of the largest business club on campus, I know exactly how fulfilling and enriching these opportunities are both personally and professionally. I wish to do whatever it takes to continue promoting current opportunities, aid in the development of new ones and help the DSB grow further into the pioneering school it is quickly becoming.
Many people promise to deliver results and developments that they haven’t lived or experienced firsthand. I prefer to promise to improve on things in my scope and “circle of influence”. In this position, I believe I have exactly the experiences and network under my belt to be a reliable Faculty Rep. As the General Assembly is the Highest governing body in the ULSU, It is extremely important to have someone you can rely on to action the initiatives that are in the best interest of students at the Dhillon School of Business.
Say "hey" if you see me around, I love meeting new people and making new friends!
