UNIVERSITY OF LETHBRIDGE STUDENTS' UNION MOURNS THE LOSS OF BOARD OF GOVERNORS CHAIR DEAN GALLIMORE

LETHBRIDGE, AB (April 7, 2025) – The University of Lethbridge Students' Union is mourning the passing of Dean Gallimore, Chair of the University of Lethbridge Board of Governors, who died on Sunday, April 6, at the Foothills Hospital in Calgary.

"The entire student community is deeply saddened by this loss," said Maleeka Thomas, President of the University of Lethbridge Students' Union. "Dean Gallimore was a tireless champion for student causes at our university."

Gallimore, a ULethbridge alumnus (BMgt '84), had served on the Board of Governors since 2019 and was appointed Chair in 2022. As Chair of the Finance Committee, he was instrumental in advocating for student priorities and consistently ensured student representatives on the Board were heard. His leadership was crucial in welcoming student representatives to the U of L's Budget Advisory Committee in 2021-2022.

Steady and visionary leadership, dedication and a genuine belief in the mission of the University of Lethbridge defined Gallimore's work as Chair. Though his tenure came during challenging times, he guided the Board through critical institutional decisions with grace and compassion, always maintaining focus on the university's mission.

His sudden death represents a profound loss for both the university and the Lethbridge community. In light of this news, the Students' Union has cancelled its Recognition and Changeover dinner scheduled for Wednesday, April 9. The university flag has been lowered in his honour.
