Alcohol Service Details

If you require alcohol service during your function there are a few options you can choose from.  Simply discuss the following options with the Students’ Union Operations Coordinator to chose the option most suited to your needs.

Our bar setup consists of all standard bar items including coolers, liqueurs, soft drinks, juices, ice, etc.

Cash Bar

No liquor permit is required by the customer.
A cash bar allows your guests to purchase their own beverages including soft drinks and juice etc. (Students’ Union supplies the liquor).  There is no gratuity charge associated with a cash bar.

Host Bar

No liquor permit is required by the customer.
The host (you) will pay for all the beverages your guests purchase and the Students’ Union supplies the liquor.   There will be a $100/per bartender gratuity charge added to the total tab.

Corkage Bar

When purchasing liquor, the host will also need to buy a liquor resale permit at the liquor store.

All liquor is purchased and supplied by the host.  The host will also be billed for labor and $4.25 + GST per person to cover all additional bar costs such as pop, ice, napkins, garnishes, glasses, etc.  Porters can be available to pour the 1st glass of wine at the tables for an additional cost of $1.50/person (this must be arranged prior to the event). The Students’ Union can supply a cash float if requested.

  • An hourly fee of $15/hr + GST per bartender will apply.  One Bartender per one hundred people is the minimum requirement.  Bartenders will be hired in accordance to the final head count given to the Students’ Union Operations Coordinator no later than one week before the event.  Please refer to the “Count Guarantee” section of this document.

  • An hourly fee of $15/hr + GST per porter will apply.  One Porter per one hundred people is the minimum requirement. As with the Bartenders, Porters will also be hired in accordance to the final head count given to the Students’ Union Food and Beverage Manager, no later than one week before the event.  Please refer to the “Count Guarantee” section of this document.

  • An hourly fee of $15/hr + GST will apply.  One Security member per 100 people is the minimum requirements.  Security will be hired in accordance to the final head count given to the Students’ Union Operations Coordinator no later than 1 week before the event.  This Security requirement is in keeping with AGLC legislation, effective April 1, 2007.

  • There will be a $100/per bartender gratuity charge added to the total corkage amount.

Drink Tickets

The host can purchase a roll of tickets prior to the event.  The host distributes the tickets to their guests where they register for them at the door.  This is an effective tool for maintaining a budget. For a ticket bar there will be a $100/per bartender gratuity charge added to the total corkage amount.

Wine Service Details

Specialty wines and product can be ordered to customize your event.  (An additional charge may apply.)  Please give 30 days notice if you want specialty product ordered.

You may also chose to purchase your own wine.  If you wish to do this you will be required to supply a liquor permit and resale permit.  Please discuss the details of wine service with our Operations Coordinator.  Wine must be purchased from a licensed AGLC recognized retailer.  It is against AGLC legislation to serve home made wine on the U of L campus.
