This position will be responsible for both the internal and external policy of the Student's Union organization. They will be a liaison with the current executive on current policies of the organization and will work with an internal review team to rework and develop new policy. The candidate will facilitate this work closely with the Advocacy committee chaired by the VP External as well as the Legislative Review Committee chaired by the VP Op-Fi. Both committees meet roughly every two weeks. The candidate will work under the direction of the current executives with changing priorities based on the goals of the executive. Through developing new policies as well as changing and editing existing policies they will work to make the organization more succinct. This will involve researching similar organizations for their controlling policies and working with staff and executive to write new policies. They may choose to obtain the help from a general assembly member if their workload gets too demanding. The candidate must be able to take direction from the executive and return with results through either policy drafts or completed research.
The position will require dedication of approximately 20 hours a month. This may vary slightly depending on the time of year.
In order to qualify the applicant must be a current part time or full-time student at the University of Lethbridge and have a knowledge of university affairs. The successful candidate must have an interest in post-secondary developments within the province of Alberta. The applicant must be actively engaged in changes related to political policy in Canada. A successful candidate will have a strong writing ability and have interest in law and policy within organizations. An understanding of student politics and history within the organization would be seen as beneficial.
$250 a month for an approximate 20 hour a month commitment. The position will run from October 1st to April 30th.
